2011 Chevy Cruze - a beautifully executed interior featuring a sweeping dash design that opens up an expansive interior. The Chevrolet Cruze has enjoyed a stellar launch in the United States, gaining critical acclaim from auto enthusiasts, journalists and consumers alike.  Now sold in over sixty countries around the globe, the Chevy Cruze is a true global powerhouse.  The Cruze combines sleek looks, along withluxury level finishes, the first IIHS Five Star Total Vehicle Safety award, the best fuel economy of any gas-powered compact car sold in the US (42 mpg highway for the Cruze ECO), and the most interior room of any compact car.  It all adds up to the new compact car benchmark.  But can the Cruze maintain its current red hot sales pace?

According to Automotive News, Honda will unveil all six versions of the 2012 Honda Civic at the New York Auto Show opening later this week.  The new Civic is set to go on sale later this year and will include a base Coupe and Sedan, a sport Si Coupe and Sedan, and two alternative power sedans, a Hybrid and a Natural Gas model.  The Honda Civic has been a consistently reliable vehicle for many years and through several redesigns.  And this new Civic will be sure to have consumers comparing it with the Cruze.  But has Honda gotten lazy in the design department?

Just check out these photos….

1999 Chevrolet Cavalier Sedan:

a Vintage 1999 Chevy Cavalier Sedan - not the most inspiring design.... but did it inspire Honda?

I know, call me biased, but I’d say Honda’s design ques for the new 2012 Civic are more reminicent of this vintage 1999 Chevy Cavalier than of a sharp modern design.  Yes, I also know that looks aren’t everything; so let’s take a closer look at the stats:
