TO FAIRFIELD COUNTY SAFE KIDS

Third Vehicle Donated by Dealership to Support Child Passenger Safety in Region

NEW CANAAN,  CT,   (November 9, 2007)  —   The KARL Company of New Canaan and Greenwich, known for its award-winning customer service and vigorous support for consumer safety, has donated a new, 2007 HUMMER H3 to Fairfield County SAFE KIDS.  The vehicle will replace the 2004 Chevy TrailBlazer that KARL donated to the non-profit organization two years ago.  The H3 will pull a trailer stocked variously with car seats, bicycles and helmets to safety events throughout Fairfield County and the tri-state area, said Robert J. Cordes, Managing Director of Fairfield County SAFE KIDS.

“We are grateful to the Karls for their continuing commitment to our program and to the safety of Fairfield County’s children,” Mr. Cordes remarked.  “They’re always there whenever we need anything, and they never ask for anything in return.  The HUMMER H3 has plenty of power for pulling our fully-loaded trailer and will help us continue to meet our core mission of preventing childhood injuries,” he added.

“Our dealership has always had a strong commitment toward safety, and Fairfield County SAFE KIDS does a particularly good job teaching parents how to prevent unnecessary childhood injuries by installing and using their child safety seats properly. We are delighted to do anything we can to help them reach as many parents as possible,” observed Stephen J. Karl, Vice President of The KARL Company.  “Our dealership sells a high percentage of vehicles to families with young children, and our staff continually stresses the importance of using properly secured seat belts, as well as car seats, at all times,” he stated.

“The KARL Dealership in New Canaan has been a grassroots supporter of the Fairfield County SAFE KIDS Coalition right from the beginning, and they do so much behind the scenes,” Mr. Cordes observed.  “KARL sponsored Fairfield County’s first safety seat clinic in 1998 and, in 1999, became the first Dealership in Connecticut to have a certified Car Seat Technician on staff.  The HUMMER H3 is the third vehicle that KARL has donated to Fairfield County SAFE  KIDS.  In 2003 the National SAFE KIDS organization recognized KARL’s ‘outstanding leadership and lasting contribution to the field of child passenger safety,’ and in 2005 KARL was the only dealership in Fairfield County and one of only seventy-five honored nation-wide by the organization for their commitment to child passenger safety.  In 2006, the Board of Directors of Fairfield County SAFE KIDS presented KARL Chevrolet HUMMER with The Safe Kids Community Partnership Award for their outstanding support of the Coalition and the children of Fairfield County,” he said.

“The KARL Company has a long history of helping area community organizations secure the vehicles they need, providing at-cost or donated Chevrolets and HUMMERS to groups such as the New Canaan Fire Department, New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Greenwich EMS, Person to Person and the Fairfield County Food Bank,” Mr. Karl added.

Fairfield County SAFE KIDS’ mission is to reduce unintentional injuries sustained by children age 0-14.  Formed in 1998, the Norwalk-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit coalition is sponsored by Danbury Hospital and many local foundations; it also seeks donations and support from the public to continue its work.  The organization provides education to the community about proper installation and use of car seats, water safety, bicycle safety, fire prevention and safety in the home.  For more information or to make a donation online, visit its Web site at www.fcsafekids.org.
