When Chevrolet brought the Camaro back to life in a retro, yet modern design, they also promised a Convertible version would be introduced in the future.  I am pleased to report the future is here!

Over the past couple of years, Chevrolet has been quietly working on designing and engineering a purpose built Police Pursuit Vehicle or PPV.  In the Spring of 2011, the all new Chevrolet Police Pursuit Vehicle will hit the streets.

And based on tests just conducted by the Michigan State Police, the all-new Caprice PPV will be a force on the roads.  See below for an outline of the results.

Lyle Dennis poses with the 2011 Chevy VOLT

We've been keeping you updated on the development of the 2011 Chevrolet VOLT, and today we take another step toward seeing VOLTs on the road!  In a bold move, Chevrolet has announced they have formed a VOLT Customer Advisory Board, comprised of 15 experts and enthusiasts who will each be provided a pre-production VOLT to experience in real-world driving for three months beginning in October 2010.  These individuals have been granted unprecedented access to the VOLT and are free to write about and share their experience.  It will be fun to see how they interact with the VOLT and how it performs in real-world driving.  Stay tuned for some of their feedback.  Below is the official Chevrolet Press Release, along with a list of board members.  (NOTE:  we have added links to these individuals websites where available to allow you to connect directly)

I normally don't get into politics on this site, but this story got me fired up!  According to multiple reports, including the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg News, the Chinese Government has announced a plan to force foreign auto manufacturers to turn-over their advanced Electric Vehicle research, development, and trade secrets in exchange for allowing sales of vehicles within China. It seems that China wants to become a global power in the development and production of electric cars and hybrids. Apparently, they want to just skip the effort, time and bother of research and development and move right into producing the technology developed by others. I am going on record right here:  IF OUR GOVERNMENT ALLOWS ANYTHING LIKE THIS TO HAPPEN, IT IS TIME FOR A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION!

Chevrolet Cruze ElectricTest Vehicle

General Motors is not sitting still waiting for the 2011 Chevy VOLT to come out.  Rather, GM is intent on pressing the envelope for new battery technology, and has announced a new demo fleet of Chevrolet Cruze Electric Vehicles.  Working with LG Chem and LG Electronics, GM is using the latest Litium Ion 31-kWh Battery to achieve a 100 mile range on a signle charge.  The battery is compact enough to mounted under the Cruze's body, leaving the standard trunk space untouched.

In a press release dated Sept 10, 2010, General Motors Ventures, a GM subsidiary charged with seeking out and advancing commercially viable emerging technology, announced its second investment in the past couple of months.  Sakti3, a 2007 spin-out from the University of Michigan, is advancing the commercialization of high-performance batteries through a unique manufacturing process developed by the company.  GM Ventures has combined with Itochu Technology Ventures to invest $4.2 million into Sakti3, Inc with the intent to "advance the firm's manufacturing capabilities and speed up commercialization of battery cells."

For most driver's, this is simply a silly question!  How can the gas in my tank go stale when I'm filling up once a week or so?  That's true .... as the gasoline we buy at the pump today typically has a shelf of about a year.

New Canaan, CT and Milot, Haiti – September 7, 2010 – The Hopital Sacre Couer, located in Milot, Haiti, has issued an urgent request for assistance obtaining much needed maintenance and repair parts for its 4x4 Ambulance.  In the months since the earth quake that devastated much of the Haitian Capital City of Port-au-Prince, this Ambulance has helped transport earth quake victims from a nearby heli-port to the Hospital.

NEW CANAAN, CT - September 3, 2010 - Over the years, KARL Chevrolet has helped hundreds of organizations with their transportation needs.  Many of these organizations are not-for-profits that have very specific transportation needs.  KARL Chevrolet has frequently worked with these organizations on a cost basis, as our way of helping their cause.  In addition to continuing that tradition, we are pleased to announce we've partnered with Chevrolet to offer a very special bonus incentive on new Chevy Express Passenger Vans with Mobility Upfits* for non-profit organizations.

Before the first 2011 Chevrolet Cruze Sedan has hit the streets (KARL Chevrolet expects our first new Cruze to arrive around Sept 10th), sketches have leaked out of a Cruze Hatchback variant that GM will display the the upcoming Paris Auto Show.
