According to multiple reports in the Wall Street Journal and WCBS 880AM Radio, General Motors is set to announce tomorrow that New York City and Austin, TX (the hometown of GM Chairman Ed Whitacre) are being added to the Launch markets for the Chevy VOLT due out late this year (November 2011).  Previously, GM had announced that initially the VOLT&nbs

The Chevrolet VOLT is coming ... and KARL Chevrolet will be ready!  We want to make sure you start to understand what the VOLT is all about!  Sure VOLT is an electric vehicle, but the Chevy VOLT will create a new benchmark in terms of what we think about electric vehicles and it will leapfrog any and all competition currently on the market.  Quite simply, there has never been a vehicle like the Chevy VOLT - the innovative EV that goes further.

Some will say "It just isn't true", while others will say "It's a statistical anomaly."  No matter what your perspective, the results of the 2010 JD Power Initial Quality Survey are in ... and the facts speak for themselves.  Domestic auto brands, as a whole, have demonstrated higher initial quality than import brands for the first time.

Led by both Chevrolet and Ford, the domestic brands zoomed past their foreign competition in the latest survey measuring quality of new cars and trucks.

For the first time in 24 years, J.D. Power Initial Quality Study showed that owners of domestic makes reported fewer problems on average during the first 90 days of ownership than drivers of foreign cars and trucks, the California-based industry research group said in releasing the results.

In 2007 General Motors broke Chinese sales records with over one million vehicles sold. That sounded pretty impressive at the time, but just three years later GM's sales have come so far so fast that as of May 2010, General Motors is now officially selling more vehicles in the Land of the Great Wall than it is in the States.

The Detroit Bureau of Automotive News reports that GM's China sales are up 54 percent in 2010 versus the first five months of 2009, with 1,032,665 cars and trucks sold so far this year. While General Motors sales here in the U.S. continue to increase, they are not increasing at as fast a pace, with 882,277 units sold during the same period.

The biggest reason GM's sales continue to outpace the growth of its competition is the shot in the arm provided by the Chevrolet brand. The Chevy brand's sales are up 104 percent on the year, led by a 113 percent increase in sales of the Cruze (the Chevy Cruze, shown above, will be introduced in the U.S. market in Sept 2010). GM sold 14,524 units of the Cruze in May alone, while the new-for-2010 Sail already hit 7,616 sales. While Chevy is quickly growing in the Chinese market, the still hot Buick brand is starting to show some signs of leveling off.  Sales of the Tri-shield are up a mere 22 percent so far this year. Cadillac appears to be stealing a bit of Buick's thunder as well, as the Wreath and Crest is up 98 percent on the year.

FIRST ROLLOVER TESTS OF MID-SIZE SUVS:  6 MODELS EARN TOP RATING; 5 MODELS EARN LOWEST MARGINAL RATING

ARLINGTON, VA — New test results show that some automakers are doing a good job of designing vehicle roofs that perform much better than current federal rollover standards require. The roofs on other vehicles need improvement. In the first Insurance Institute for Highway Safety roof strength tests of midsize SUVs, 6 earn the top rating of good for rollover protection, 1 is acceptable, and 5 others earn the second lowest rating of marginal.

Midsize SUVs earning good ratings are the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox (twin GMC Terrain) built after March 2010, Jeep Liberty (twin Dodge Nitro), Toyota Highlander and Venza, plus the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Kia Sorento, both 2011 models. The 2010 Ford Edge is rated acceptable. The worst performers, which earn marginal ratings, are the Honda Accord Crosstour, Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-7, Mitsubishi Endeavor, and Nissan Murano, all 2010 models.

In addition to earning good ratings for rollover protection, the Equinox, Grand Cherokee, Highlander, Sorento, and Venza also earn the Institute’s TOP SAFETY PICK award.
