While reading an article the other day on Autoblog (this one: http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/29/oh-buck-study-says-deer-automobile-accident-rate-up-by-18-ove/) it got me thinking about the topic of driving around Fairfield County and the number of deer we have.
Now as I used to live in Ridgefield, I will admit to once hitting a deer ON MAIN STREET at about 9pm during the winter months one year. MAIN STREET!! He came right out of an alley and I tagged him front and center with my front bumper at about 10 mph. Stunned (both he and I) he got back up and ran down another alley. I got out of the car, checked the front end only to find I had cracked a front headlight. I was lucky!
My brother has hit AT LEAST THREE deer on the Merrit Parkway in the same Trailblazer. He swears the front brush guard has saved his life and I don't doubt it though it may have helped kill Bambi (sorry animal lovers).
