GM Volt to be produced for 2010?

chevy_volt_cutaway.jpg40 Miles. That is the distance that the 2010 Chevry Volt could drive completely on battery. Is it enough? I've heard it said that the Toyota Prius can only drive 1 mile on battery alone. So we are making progress, and with an onboard gas engine (or diesel engine) driving a generator, range is not limited to just 40 miles. In fact, I've seen range numbers quoted at high as 640 miles on one tank of fuel (to drive the generator that powers the electric motors and charges the battery). But I ask you, would you buy one? If you have a Toyota Prius, would you trade it for a Chevrolet Volt? How far do you commute to work? Would 40 miles be enough for pure battery commuting? Check out this article for more info and comments on the topic.

This VOLT is a winner. Saw it at the NY Auto show and it was a killer in person - huge crowds around it and lots of buzz. if the battery thing gets figured out for even 10 or 20 miles thats enough to get me to work and back and it would be amazing to do it without any gas. what other body configs can they do? how about a small pickup or van for work?
